COME TO THE FAIR! JUST FOR THE
HEALTH OF IT! FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR
TO CELEBRATE HOSPITAL CENTENNIAL
Saint Peter's University Hospital will continue to
celebrate its Centennial with a fireworks extravaganza
at the "Just for the Health of It" fair in New
Brunswick. The health fair is scheduled to take place
on Saturday, May 17, in Buccleuch Park, located across
the street from the hospital on Easton Avenue, New
Brunswick. Fireworks will light up the
night sky at approximately 8:15 p.m.,
culminating a day of fun and games.
The event is the latest to mark the
milestone year. The hospital kicked off
its Centennial year in March by
celebrating the birth of the 20 children
born on the anniversary of the day the
hospital was incorporated 100 years
ago. The hospital held a prayer service
attended by hospital employees and
other members of the Saint Peter's
family days later. During the service,
the Most Reverend Paul G. Bootkoski,
Bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen, reminisced about
how the hospital's mission today is rooted in the vision
of Msgr. James O'Grady, who during his tenure as
pastor of Saint Peter's Church in New Brunswick,
advocated for the opening of a hospital that would serve
the poor of the city.

The Buccleuch Park health fair launches the hospital's
community celebrations of its Centennial. In addition to
the fireworks, the fair will feature a 3K Walk & Run,
nutrition clinics, health exhibitors, a Sports Zone, and
an entertainment line-up that includes the Jerseybased
VooDudes and Big Orange Cone. In addition to
the various community celebrations, the hospital
will continue to mark this milestone in service
throughout the year by sponsoring projects.
These range from a school art poster contest
to the participation of employees and their
families in walks to generate awareness
about heart health, premature births, arthritis,
and breast cancer. The hospital is co-sponsoring
the walks in cooperation with each event's
parent organization, the American Heart
Association, the March of Dimes, the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
and the Arthritis Foundation. |
