– is the award-winning federal health site that links to reliable information
from more than 1,800 health-related organizations. The health library is available
in both English and
Spanish.
Child Consumer Health Sites
– This page hosts an excellent list of consumer health topics specific to
children and teenagers.
Medem –
This is a consumer health information site created by the nation's leading medical
societies.
Interactive Health Tutorials – Using animated graphics, each
tutorial explains a procedure or condition in easy-to-read language. You can also
listen to the tutorial. Excellent for patients.
Lab Tests Online
– This site was created by the American Association for Clinical
Chemistry. It has a library of tests that will provide helpful background for understanding
why a test might be given, how to interpret its results, and what kind of sample
or specimen is required to perform the test.
ClinicalTrials
– This site was developed by the National Library of Medicine. Its intent
is to provide patients and the public information about clinical research studies.

– Dr. Koop plays host to this site, which offers users many different consumer-oriented
health resources and health-related news.
HealthFinder
– This is a government site that helps consumers sort out health-related sites.
The site is searchable and includes links to news, libraries and government agencies.
All information is reviewed.
HealthWeb –
HealthWeb provides links to specific, evaluated information resources on the WWW
selected by librarians and information professionals at leading academic medical
centers in the Midwest.
InteliHealth –
This site is home to Johns Hopkins health information. There is a variety
of information available on certain topics. Key topics are also featured on the
page. Other resources on the page include a free health e-mail service, a newsletter,
current news and a medical dictionary.
Medical Matrix Patient Education and Support – This
site ranks a number of patient education sites and provides links to each. The site
may require an initial registration, but the resources are free.
NOAH: New York Online Access
to Health – The New York Public Library and the New York
Academy of Medicine cosponsor this site, which provides consumer information on
a wide range of health-related topics. The site seeks to provide quality full-text
information in English and Spanish.
MyWebMD –
This is a general all-purpose consumer-oriented health site. Of particular interest
are the reference and interactive tools and live chat sections.
Merck Manual Home
Edition – This interactive manual, written in laypeople's
language, includes all the information available in the printed version, plus new
multimedia components such as animations, audio, videos, color photographs and Internet
links.
Healthy New Jersey
– This is a collection of Web sites for consumers. It includes, among other
things, news groups and support groups on various health conditions.
Genetics Home Reference – The National Library of Medicine's
Web site for consumer information about genetic conditions and the genes responsible
for those conditions provides summary descriptions of genetic conditions, symptoms,
diagnostic processes and treatment options.
