The Medical Library's databases are available through the hospital's Virtual Private Network (VPN) https://desktop.saintpetersuh.com.

With VPN access, you need only to enter your Saint Peter’s email account’s username and password. You will then have access to the Medical Library’s databases without the need to enter additional usernames and passwords.

When using a hospital computer, database access will not require a username and a password.

Please note that our site license to UpToDate limits access to hospital computers only.

All physicians and residents have VPN access. All employees are eligible for VPN access. If you already have access to the VPN, there is nothing you need to do. You will see a link to the Medical Library’s databases once you are logged in to the VPN.

Bioethics - BIOETHICSLINE is a unique interdisciplinary source of references to information on the ethical, legal and public policy aspects of health care, the professional patient relationship and biomedical research.

Cancer Information - The site includes CancerLit and PDQ databases, the largest databases for cancer information.

Clinical Alerts
- Clinical alerts are findings from the NIH-funded clinical trials where such release could significantly affect morbidity and mortality.

ClinicalTrials.gov
- Provides patients, family members and members of the public with current information about clinical research studies.

Consumer Health Information
- The MedlinePlus databases provide consumers authoritative health information.

Directory of Health Organizations (DIRLINE) - Contains location and descriptive information about a wide variety of information resources including organizations, research resources, projects and databases concerned with health and biomedicine.

GeneClinics - This is an expert-authored, peer-reviewed medical knowledge base consisting of concise descriptions of specific inherited disorders and authoritative, current information on the role of genetic testing in the diagnosis, management and genetic counseling of patients with these inherited conditions.

HIV/AIDS Resources - Includes the AIDSLINE, AIDSDRUGS and AIDSTRIALS databases. A large portion of the AIDSLINE data is also found in MEDLINE.

History of Medicine - A wealth of information on the history of medicine, including the images from the History of Medicine database.

LocatorPlus - NLM's catalog of books, journals and audiovisuals and access points to other medical research tools.

MEDLINE - MEDLINE is the National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and the preclinical sciences.

National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care Technology (NICHSR) - This is a database of information on health research and administration.

National Library of Medicine's Databases & Electronic Resources - NLM provides a wide variety of electronic resources related to the biomedical and health sciences. You will find various databases, some are full text, on its Web site.

Population Information - Population Information includes worldwide coverage of population, family planning and related health issues, including family planning technology and programs, fertility, and population law and policy.

Profiles in Science
- The archival collections of prominent 20th-century biomedical scientists contain published and unpublished materials, including books, journal volumes, pamphlets, diaries, letters, manuscripts, photographs, audio tapes and other audiovisual materials.

Visible Human Project - A database of complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional images of the normal male and female human bodies.
