Cancer Care Services
Saint Peter's cancer program guides and supports adults, children, and their families
through diagnosis and treatment. We provide advanced treatment using the most sophisticated
technology available, and we deliver it with understanding and sensitivity.
Areas of specialization include
pediatric cancer care;
women's oncology,
such as breast and gynecological cancers; and
radiation oncology services, including an innovative coblation procedure
to treat cancerous tumors that have caused spinal fractures.
Inpatient Care
The Monsignor James A. Harding Oncology Unit is our 24-bed inpatient adult unit
for those who need hospitalization. A broad range of support services is available
here, including physical therapy, education and counseling. While in the 24-bed
unit, patients are cared for by a team of skilled oncology nurses, all of whom helped
Saint Peter's earn our designation as a Magnet hospital, the gold standard for nursing
excellence.
Specialty services include:
- Head and Neck Oncology Group – Unique to our region, this
group of nine specialists form the multidisciplinary team that treats rare forms
of cancer of the head and neck. The team tests, diagnoses, plans treatment, performs
interventional or reconstructive surgery, administers chemotherapy and/or radiation
therapy, and provides support services, all under one roof.
- Outpatient Infusion – Our dedicated Infusion Suites provide
a comfortable atmosphere for adults and children to receive chemotherapy and antibiotic
infusions on an outpatient basis.
- Institute for Genetic Medicine –
The Institute uses the latest advances in genetics to help families make informed
decisions about their options for early detection and risk reduction of hereditary
cancers and blood disorders.
- Community Mobile Health Services –
Saint Peter's Community Mobile Health Unit, a 34-foot van staffed with health
care professionals, travels throughout central New Jersey offering residents access
to cancer screenings and education.
