Cancer Care

More than 1,400 adults and children newly diagnosed with cancer receive the most advanced therapies and individualized care each year at Saint Peter's University Hospital.

Our nurses are nationally certified and some hold dual certification in both Oncology and Medical Surgical Nursing. They are part of a team of specialists that also includes medical oncologists, hematologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, physicists, dosimetrists, therapists, social workers, nutritionists and pharmacists.

A multidisciplinary approach is taken to treat all types of cancer. We provide targeted, minimally invasive therapies; specialized inpatient facilities; and outpatient infusion suites for chemotherapy and other intravenous treatments.

Saint Peter's is a co-founder of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) and currently serves as a CINJ clinical research affiliate. As an affiliate, we offer patients the opportunity to participate in important clinical trials. A list of currently open clinical trials can be found here.

Since 1985, Saint Peter's cancer program has been accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program, indicating that our facility is operating above and beyond national standards. Only 25% of the nation's cancer programs receive this accreditation. We were reaccredited in 2006 with commendation, which marked the 21st consecutive year for which we maintained this high level of quality care.

Oncology Unit

Our new adult oncology unit has 24 private rooms, each with a refrigerator and DVD player. The rooms are furnished with sleeper sofas for family members who wish to stay overnight. The unit's new Healing Garden provides a stress-free nurturing environment for patients and families.

For more than 40 years, we have been known for delivering exceptional cancer care—from genetic testing and counseling through diagnosis and state-of-the-art treatment—with understanding and sensitivity.
