Saint Peter's delivers more babies than does any other facility in central New Jersey,
making us the premier hospital in our area for maternity services. Many community
obstetricians choose to affiliate with Saint Peter's because of our specialized
programs and experienced staff. Numerous patients also choose Saint Peter's for
those very reasons. We provide an extra measure of comfort and security for expectant
parents because of our experienced maternal-fetal medicine team and renowned
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Infant Prematurity Assessment and Prevention Program
Saint Peter's infant prematurity assessment and prevention program is for pregnant
women, and women preparing to become pregnant, who are at high risk for delivering
preterm or low-birth-weight babies. Doctors evaluate potential risk factors and
develop pregnancy management plans to help each woman obtain the best possible outcome
for her pregnancy.
Saint Peter's is the only New Jersey hospital affiliated with the Maternal-Fetal
Medicine Units Network, created by the National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development. This association allows us to participate in perinatal research on
prematurity.
Labor/Delivery/Recovery Suites
Our 15 spacious Labor/Delivery/Recovery Suites have the most advanced technologies
available to help ensure safe deliveries. Five dedicated cesarean delivery suites,
located on the unit, are immediately available for patients who need them.
Most important, however, is our level of staff experience. Our fully integrated
service includes high-risk specialists such as board-certified physicians who specialize
in maternal-fetal medicine and neonatal care. They are on call 24/7 to handle emergency
complications.
Mother-Baby Unit
Our newly constructed Mother-Baby Unit features single-patient rooms and “carriage
house dining” so families can celebrate their new arrivals in comfort and privacy.
Nurses and support staff are trained to care for both mother and child, providing
patients with continuity of care in a more familylike environment. Certified lactation
consultants come to the bedside to help mothers breast-feed, infant care classes
are held on the unit and maternity technicians offer additional support for Mom's
comfort.
Newborns can room with Mom or spend time in the Nursery so she can rest and recover.
Babies born prematurely or with special medical needs receive advanced medical care
in our NICU.
