Center for Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery
Many women experience urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse symptoms at
some point during their lifetime. It can be the cause of great emotional and physical
discomfort for many women. Sadly, many are not aware that these pelvic floor disorders
are common and treatable.
The field of urogynecology, a sub-specialty of
obstetrics and gynecology, is dedicated to the treatment of women with pelvic
floor disorders. Symptoms of urinary incontinence include leakage of urine with
cough, exercise, or other stress, or when trying to get to the bathroom. Symptoms
of pelvic organ
prolapse include pelvic pressure or the sensation that the bladder, rectum,
or uterus has dropped. Often these symptoms are the result of weakness in the pelvic
floor muscle and the loss of vaginal support.
At the Center for Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Saint Peter’s
University Hospital, we provide comprehensive evaluation of the pelvic floor and
present a treatment plan designed to meet an individual’s needs. Our doctor has
been fellowship trained in minimally invasive surgical techniques (vaginal and laparoscopic),
the use of graft materials, and uterine preservation. The center also offers non-surgical
medical therapies for the treatment of urinary incontinence, overactive bladder,
postpartum urinary and fecal urgency or incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and
pelvic pain disorders.
Patients can make an appointment at the
Center for Ambulatory Resources (CARES) in New Brunswick or at the
Center for Adult Health Care in Monroe Township.
